Progress

Slowly and surely inch by inch things are getting closer and closer to completion. At this point in the game I remember time and time again why monogamous knitting is ideal, it’s ideal because you get stuff finished quickly, but then I forget that and want to cast on two new things for every finished object. I feel like I haven’t made any progress on any of the WIP’s except for the Nachtfalter. Besides working on way too many projects life has also been slowing me down. I was hoping that with my two week break between semesters I would be able to bust some major projects out, but that doesn’t seem to be happening. So far every baseball game I have been at the weather has not cooperated in terms of letting me knit. Either it is too hot (so I’m sweating) or raining. Also I have had an impromptu part time job interview, have had to mow the yard, weed the flower bed, and to take my Uncle who’s visiting from Wyoming shopping.

Well enough of that here are some project shots, the project shots make me feel like I have made progress because everything is slightly bigger than last weeks pictures of them.

If you look at this post and last weeks post you can see that in Deviate the yarn overs have started going a different way, Nachtfalter is well past the baby cable ribbing (the front side is almost done), and well the socks show the least amount of progress. Also exciting news I filled up my first spindle, I’m not quite sure if I will ply it or not, or how many yards I have.

What have you been working on? Has life been slowing down your knitting life?

My will was weak

My will was weak, I started some new knitting projects and not just one, but three new projects. On the plus side I did just finish my Downeast sweater.

Yes! I finished it! It hasn’t been washed or photographed, that will all come this weekend, but I did finish it. I also did get started on working on the follow your arrow shawl again. Granted it is back on the back burner, but I plan to make myself work on it a little bit each day. That hasn’t happened since this past weekend, but I’m trying and that is what matters right?

Now on to the new projects and I will go ahead and apologize in advance for the poor quality of pictures, they are from my phone (that’s how most of my WIP’s are photographed). First up is the Nachfalter:

I started this yesterday and I have been zooming through the baby cables, I am over halfway finished with that section. I started this for the Top Tanks and Tees KAL (TTTKAL), I am also double dipping this with the stockinette zombies summer tops KAL. If you want to join the TTTKAL you can sign up here and if you want to join the stockinette zombies go here (the stockinette zombies is run through their ravelry group so you will need to join their group to participate). TTTKAL runs until the end of May, but the stockinette zombies runs until the end of June.

Now onto Deviate:

20140508-130902.jpgI cast on this one as a part of the Northbound Knits and Cocktail SKAL. My trillian is also a part of this SKAL (spin and knit along). This is a special SKAL because it is exclusive to those who bought the yarn or fiber dyed up by Lisa Mutch aka Northbound Knitting. The colorways were inspired by cocktails. This one end June 1st.

Now onto my Earlybird socks:

This is a part of the Socks with Sarah KAL and is also a part of Socks with Sarah May challenge. To join in to this one you need to join Sarah’s ravelry group and then you can join the KAL. This project has been a lot of fun so far. I also just want to say that the yarn was dyed up by my friend Alicia who sometimes reads the blog (this was one of her experiments, she just dyes yarn for fun).

Later this week I will post about how my spinning is going, I know some of you were interested.

Hermione Socks

I have a lot of things flying off of my needles recently and my Hermione socks are one of those things. I had been wanting to knit them for a while now and a KAL seemed to be just the thing to get me to start them. The Hermione sock KAL was hosted by knityorkcity on Kollabora.

With the socks I used some leftover sock yarn from another pair of socks I had made the yarn is poems by wisdom yarns. I really like the yarn, but my skein seemed to have a few yarn breaks where the yarn was tied together and it was a thick and thin yarn, and well the jury is still out on how I feel about thick and thin yarn. I had to modify the pattern because I decided to knit needle size US 2 and the first time I started them they were to big so instead of casting on 64 I cast on 56. I was much happier with the size of the socks after that. Working with the 56 stitches wasn’t bad I just had the split even between the two needles and when it came to working the heel I just subtracted 4 from whatever the original total was, so all in all my modifications didn’t cause me too much grief and made me a perfect pair of socks. Here my ravelry project page.

And it begins

The past two weeks I have been busy trying to get lot of¬† knitting in and lots of fun activities in for the little girls I watch since school was quickly approaching. Yesterday the girls went back to school so I’m transitioning¬† to watching them after school only and I start back to school on Monday. I know I have said each semester that this will be a hard semester, but I only have one syllabus and well even if all of the other classes are easy it will still be a tough semester with this class. Enough about school. Besides watching my usual girls I also helped out some other family with sitting or dog sitting so it made the past two weeks go by fast.

Here’s my past two weeks in pictures.

I did splatter painting with the girls, they absolutely love it! I don’t know if you can see it or not but if you look close enough right below the one girls hands you can see the paint flying.

Then since they were covered it paint I wanted to hose the paint off, and it turned into a water war.

Then they decided they wanted to learn how to knit. The youngest one decided that she wasn’t ready and that she would try when she got older but the oldest one and their step sister really caught on!

The dog that I watched for a day! Isn’t she the cutest!

I have been also wanting to make a t-shirt yarn basket and the girls helped me make the yarn from my old t-shirts.

Besides all of that going we have a lot of Birthdays coming up this month and next month in our family. Like my sisters is today and my moms is tomorrow. I still don’t know what I am getting my sister because well, we have different taste in clothes and jewelry and I hate just giving money, but I may just have to do that. But my mom I decided to resurrect a WIP and give it to her, I can always make another one for myself.

20130823-113518.jpg

Remember these? That’s what my mom’s getting. I had the heel almost done but then I messed up somewhere and decided to rip out and do a slip stitch heel flap instead since I’m still new to this magic loop thing. Another reason why I wanted to get these socks done is because Kollabora is hosting a KAL of the everyday Hermione sock pattern which I have been wanting to make plus I wouldn’t mind winning one of the prize yarns either.

Besides all of that I did finish my grace, I have no pictures of me wearing it yet, but I hope to get them taken soon. I also have basically one sleeve completely done with my chocolate stout, but I don’t have pictures of that, but here is my grace blocking.

The buttons are some of the ones I got from AddVintage don’t they look great with them?!

New Beginnings and Great Endings Part 2

Well I failed, I didn’t post as early as I was hoping, but in my defense, the week before last I babysat 4 different times in one week. The first job I did involved 3 kids, the second 2 kids, the third time 3 kids, and the fourth and last babysitting job consisted of 7 boys ranging from 2nd grade to 5th grade so with all of those babysitting jobs, work, and grad school work I was very tired and took this week as a week to recuperate and continue chugging on with homework, knitting, and school work.

I did on the other hand start the annis and the gemini though I haven’t taken a picture of the gemini yet because really all I have done is the cast on. Also I started working on/designing the baby owl hat and I finished the Mickey Mouse hat which I hope to get a true pattern written up soon.

Sadly I also failed because I still haven’t gotten good finished project pictures of my hoarfrost hat, my blue emily raglan sweater, my cupido, or my pink welted cowl. On the plus side I have a friend coming over this week who is better at taking pictures than my mom so I should get those pictures done and up later this week. Also the friend who is coming over is my friend Ashley who if you remember from past blogs, is the friend that we always try pinterest things so hopefully I will have some good posts coming up for you.

In the mean time here are some pictures of finished projects and works in progress.

Here's the annis, I am about halfway done with the the lace chart.

Here is the baby bunny hat I am working on. I just have to figure out what I am going to do with the ears.

I finally finished my socks! Which means I have two out of four pairs finished for my goal this year!

Socks Socks Socks

Well a crazy thing has happened. The sock bug has bitten me and I can’ seem to put down any of the socks I am working on. As of right now I have 3 pairs that are on going. Almost all of them have a least one sock almost to the heel which is my least favorite part of the heel.

This sock I started in October and only in the new year did I really start working on it again which as you can see I have finished it and have started its mate.

Here's the start of the other sock.

Here’s the start of the other sock.

Here's the pair that pair that I showed you awhile back, they are much further along. They are actually at the heel shaping and I really do like using the magic loop for making socks.

Now I just started this pair of socks yesterday and they are for the Business Causal KAL with celticcaston. I am really enjoying this project so far. Especially the cables.

So far I am really enjoying the KAL. This is my first KAL, this is also the first time I have made socks that have a pattern not a formula. To top it all off this is my first pair of topic down socks and the first time I wont being doing the short heel rows for the heel. I am going to follow the pattern and do the heel it calls for. All in all it will be a totally different sock experience, but I am looking forward to it.

In other news, my deja vu cupido cowl and for the love of pink welted cowl are coming along nicely, but I still haven’t started the projects people have requested . Also I am doing my first test knit. I will have pictures and a post about the test knit some time soon.

It’s beginning to look a lot like…

A sweater! I am so excited! Yes I have basically been working on this sweater nonstop, I have rarely put it down for a different project, but details, details I will be wearing this sweater in two days tops! By Sunday I plan to have it finished and oh goodness does it look great! I love this pattern Jane Richmond did it again. She designed a fabulous, simple pattern that you just don’t want to put down. Here are some pictures of the sweater. Also here is a link to my ravelry Raglan sweater project page.

So close to being finished! All that's left is the sleeves and the ribbing around the neck.

So close to being finished! All that’s left is the sleeves and the ribbing around the neck. Oh and excuse my pup Snoopy she didn’t want to move out-of-the-way for the picture.

Due to poor lighting it looks a tad bit yellow/greenish but here is a more aerial view.

So everything has been going really well with the sweater, I only made one blunder but caught it before I finished. Not thinking I did a 2×2 ribbing when it called for a 1×1. Luckily I was only an inch in, so I pulled it out and started over with the 1×1. I like the look of the 1×1 for this project a lot better than the 2×2. The sweater does fit really well though! I didn’t want to put it on tonight, but when I get completely finished I will totally post pictures of me wearing it. Hopefully in better light.

So I just started one of the sleeves and in doing that I had to pick up twelve stitches and might I add it turned out wonderfully. I was concerned with doing it because this is the first project were it was important I did it right and well I did. I am so happy with how it looks!

Under the arm/armpit where I picked up the stitches! It turned out so well!

Under the arm/armpit where I picked up the stitches! It turned out so well!

Just recently Shannon from luvinthemommyhood posted a link from an older post of hers where Jane Richmond herself made a picture tutorial on the way to pick up stitches click here to go to that post. She also posted here a few other places for tutorials on it.After reading through it I feel loads more confident and I have the result to prove it!.

So besides working on the sweater I have worked on my for the love of pink cowl some, my top-secret project, and I started a new pair of socks with a new technique that I have been too nervous to try until now. The technique is the magic loop and to top it all off besides learning that I also decided to jump in feet first and knit two socks while I am at it, so far it is going very well.

I used the Judy’s magic cast on for the toe, it is my go to sock cast on I love it and I am using the universal toe-up sock formula for the rest of it.

20130125-223816.jpg

I’m generally pretty OCD about symmetry, but surprisingly enough I really don’t care if my self stripping socks look identical. Now if they were very clear bold stripes I would, but these I really could care less.

More Snoopy pictures! Isn’t she cute?!

What new techniques have you been wanting to try? Do you have a project you just can’ t put down?
